About.Me
Not sure if you all had heard about this one yet or not. This is my page http://about.me/owfotografik on this site.

This is a site that is like an “about me page” but it is a whole site. So I can have a bio and links to all of my social networks and sites.
I have seen people using this as their “about me” on their website or blog. Have a link to this site rather than coding an about me page.

As you can with many social styled sites, you can interact with other users. The really cool part about this site is that they encourage integration with all of your other Social Media sites and Websites. It is truly a comprehensive listing of you online. The social aspect makes it possible for you to connect with someone across all of their social sites on the internet. In some ways you could even use it as a “mini resume” page.

A trick I learned in Costa Rica is to tape over all of the holes in a feeder, except one. Into that hole, place a nice flower (preferably something with a good size to it, like Hibiscus, or Trumpet Flower). Add some hummingbird nectar to the center of the flower. Stay seated quietly, but get everything composed and focused as you want it, and just wait until the bird(s) approach the flower, and start shooting. It’s helpful to use a shutter cable for this.

If you want to go a step further, you can place some colored backdrops if you have them, to avoid any sort of cluttered background. And a few well placed flash units don’t hurt either.

I think you’ll be amazed at the photos you will get, and they’ll always look natural.

I wish I had taken more shots of hummers in Costa Rica, because I’ve never seen one here where I live. There are several in my gallery area though if you want to see what I’m talking about. And yes, these were all at feeders.

Making Sense Of Facebook Advertising And Hashtags

Facebook, on the face of it, would appear to be in a bit of a search muddle at the moment.

The social media giant has recently added hashtags to its service but is undoubtedly last to the party as platforms including Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, Tumblr and others will attest.

Still, it’s a very welcome addition and will help people and pages expand the reach of their content. According to Facebook:

Hashtags can be searched from the search bar at the top of the page
Hashtags that originate from other sites (ie Instagram) can be clicked
People can compose a post directly within hashtag search results

But while Facebook has just introduced something that other sites have used effectively over the years, it’s also cut its sponsored search ads service.

Launched just short of a year ago sponsored search results would appear whenever a user searched for something and acted in a similar manner to Facebook advertising.

But if it’s now being phased out does that mean that Facebook is walking away from the search game?

Not necessarily as Facebook has suggested that ads will be available in its upcoming Graph Search which still has a waiting list.
