How much do you know About.Me ?

Screen Shot 2013-09-27 at 10.18.06 AM

About.Me
Not sure if you all had heard about this one yet or not. This is my page http://about.me/owfotografik on this site.

This is a site that is like an “about me page” but it is a whole site. So I can have a bio and links to all of my social networks and sites.
I have seen people using this as their “about me” on their website or blog. Have a link to this site rather than coding an about me page.

As you can with many social styled sites, you can interact with other users. The really cool part about this site is that they encourage integration with all of your other Social Media sites and Websites. It is truly a comprehensive listing of you online. The social aspect makes it possible for you to connect with someone across all of their social sites on the internet. In some ways you could even use it as a “mini resume” page.

About.me (Usually styled as about.me) is a personal web hosting service co-founded by Ryan Freitas, Tony Conrad and Tim Young in October 2009.[2] The site offers registered users a simple platform from which to link multiple online identities, relevant external sites, and popular social networking websites such as Facebook, Flickr, Google+, LinkedIn, Twitter, Tumblr, and YouTube. It is characterized by its one-page user profiles, each with a large, often-artistic background image and abbreviated biography.” – Wikipedia

Where to Sell Photos Online & Make Money

Where to Sell Photos Online & Make Money by: Ionut Nedelcu

Making money online isn’t as simple as many think even though there are lots of ways one might do it, such as playing games, mining bitcoins, creating a YouTube channel, or just creating a blog. But the Internet allows much more than these methods, and that is to make money out of your hobbies. Computer builders can advertise their skills and make client builds, graphics specialists can make custom designs and sell them and the list goes on and on.

One hobby is quite common and and the possibility for getting fair compensation is quite high: photography. Be it digital photo manipulation or old school photography, those who have this hobby can sell their photos and make a pretty buck from it. Of course, your photos must be good if you want to sell them.

Pretty much any type of digital media can be sold. If you own a quality camera, like a DSLR, you can take artistic photos or stock photos. There is a big market for stock photography, as digital artists use these photos to create others from them. Also, in the same category of stock photography are texture photographs, which can also be done with a high quality camera.

Note: Stock photography requires you to have a DSLR camera, as you need the high resolution provided by these devices. This is especially true for texture photography, where the textures need to be high resolution and high quality.

Artistic photography can also bring you some money, but there are many photographers out there that are very well known and take stunning pictures of all types (portraits, landscapes, nature, sports, macro, etc), and making a name for yourself is pretty hard, but if you are talented, then you will succeed.

Digital compositions can be sold in numerous places and graphics designers have made a living out of creating awesome photos from scratch or from stocks, using specialized software, such as Adobe Photoshop. If you don’t own a powerful camera, and you don’t like going out and searching for the best frame, then this might be the one for you. But keep in mind that programs like Photoshop are very hard to learn, and becoming proficient with them will take months if not years of hard work.

If you are just now starting to think about selling your photos, then you must have lots of questions. Here are a few answers that might interest you in the beginning:

Q:  How much money can I make from selling photos?
A: It greatly depends on how well your photos are discovered, how many you sell and what percentage of the cost of the photos you receive from the service you use.

Q:  How long before I get any payment?
A: Again, it depends on how quickly your photos are discovered, how good they are, how affordable they are and of course, on what people need.

Q:  Do I have to invest anything?
A: In some cases, yes. There are many websites that allow you to upload photos for free, or try a demo of their services, but many require either a one time buy or a regular subscription.

Q:  What is the best solution for selling photos online?
A: Both ways have their advantages, what it boils down to is the time you plan on investing in this and of course, the budget.

Tips on selling your pictures online

Even though the concept of selling pictures online is pretty straightforward, there are some aspects that you should consider. By following these simple guidelines you will get a head start in your endeavor and make a name for yourself. After all, being known by people is half of the way, and once you make yourself known to the customers, you will have better chances of selling your photos.

Before you start selling your pictures online, you might want to do a little reading on photography and composition, as you will need these skills to later take good pictures. Also, if you are using Adobe Photoshop to compose or edit photos, then look at a few tutorials and learn how to use it.

  • Finding your niche is a good way to start. Everyone likes different things, therefore, they will do better at taking pictures or composing on different themes. Experiment with a number of models and see which pleases you the best. For some, macro photography is best looking, and for others, it might be astrophotography.
  • Get your gear ready, be it your DSLR camera or your editing software. Now that you learned a bit about them, you will know what you need to make the best pictures, and if you discovered your niche, then you will need specialized tools and equipment.
  • Don’t discard photos even if you don’t particularly like them. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, therefore someone might like a photo that you find mediocre, or they might hate what you think of as your masterpiece.
  • Keep your photos organized! You might not upload all your photos at once to a website to sell them, so keep them handy for later on. Also, you might have more than one niche, and so, you will have to organize them for better access. If you are doing stock photography and other types of photography at the same time, you will have to sell them on different websites and having them organized will help you a lot.
  • Make yourself a portfolio and show customers what you can do. This is especially necessary if you plan on creating a Print on Demand shop.
  • Scout all the websites that sell photographs and upload your work. The more sources you use, the more likely it is your photos will be found and bought.
  • Don’t get discouraged if your photos are rejected for whatever reason by some websites, just keep trying in other places and you’ll get there.
  • If by any chance some of your photos are rejected everywhere, do the next best thing: offer them for free download, under your name and watermark. This will make you known to the customer base and you might end up with some fans who will buy your other photos.
  • Do some advanced research on selling photos online. There are a number of books that might help you achieve your goal. Here are a few of them: 99 Ways To Make Money From Your Photos, Sell & Re-Sell Your Photos, Photographing Arts – Crafts & Collectibles, Sell Photos Online.

Twitter Advice From a Twitter Expert

Posted by: Nadine and Bob Johnston

Many use different ways of building their Twitter Accounts. Some pay money to get new followers, but felt that did not suit me, as it is a one time expense for each group, and there are no additional benefits. Stumbled across this link, and decided to try it. Spent the same money Id probably have used to buy followers, but have an ongoing advantage. So bought a copy of TweetAdder with multiple accounts up to five.

At the time had less than 800 followers, and it took me a time investment, but beginning in August 2012, by January 1st 2013 had in our two accounts totalling over 25,000 followers. In the program, you can search for users who follow others, as I have a LOT of Grand Canyon Photos on FAA, began searching followers of GrandCanyonNPS on twitter. It gave me thousand of followers who were interested in goings on in the Grand Canyon as well as those who go there. Figuring my photos might be better than theirs, even they may make purchases. So built an enthusiastic group of followers using my Twitter name @GrandCanyonPics … and Nadines @Nadine1939
(If this were the only benefit, Id have bought it.)

It also automatically follows, anyone who follows you. So, when others retweet our tweets, and they have followers who click to follow us as they like the pics, it follows them. This can go on, and on, and on, sometimes I get a dozen new followers, from some of the ReTweets my followers send.

Another great feature, You add Tweets into the program, and they get automatically sent out, the number per day you choose. In the beginning set to keep the tweets in the program and kept adding interesting ones that I found. Humor, Quotes, helpful info, etc… then interspersing tweets with our work. Id click Tweet in FAA, then instead of sending it, copy it into TweetAdder. That built a list of over 500 reoccuring tweets that kept repeating, so began saving a copy to the drive. Over time it has built up to 2000 tweets, and I have them sent in order, set so it removes each one. Then, when it runs out, load the copy of the list again. As it takes time to run through the list, they are not repeating the same ones as often as it would, if were set to Random Order.
(This saves so much of my time, if this were the only benefit, Id have bought it.)

It will also Re-Tweet or resend Tweets of others automatically, like added the GrandCanyonNPS to it, and it re-sends all GC tweets. Have added some others of interest also.

There are a lot of other features in TweetAdder, and am using all of them, too many to explain all here.
But, here is a link where you can check it out further: http://bit.ly/18HOVcU

Selling Art Online – Basic Exposure

You must be on Twitter and Fine Art America.
In my opinion, these two sites are the most important selling and social media sites to be listed with. There are many other links on this website but these two are the most important. If you want to sell your art online and are just starting out, then click on these 3 links Fine Art America, Twitter and Hoot Suite, and set up basic accounts for FREE.
*In order to get the most out of Twitter I recommend using Hoot Suite.

Fine Art America (FAA) is the best place I have found to create a portfolio of your work and sell your work online. If you only have time to list in 1 place online this is the place to be.
“You can stop searching…you’ve found the world’s most powerful websites for photographers and visual artists.
With absolutely no programming experience required, you can create a professional artist website in minutes and immediately begin selling prints and greeting cards to a worldwide audience.   Yes – really!   Your website is built using the same technology that transformed FineArtAmerica.com into the world’s fastest growing art site and earned the devotion of tens of thousands of photographers and visual artists all over the world. The features that we provide are simply unbeatable… and so is our price! ”

Websites for Photographers

Twitter: Twitter.com is the absolute best way to get in front of many people all the time. It is essential to use a program like Hoot Suite https://hootsuite.com/to automate your posts over time.
You will want to learn the program and set it to tweet for you during the day. The key with Twitter is to stay active.

If you want to take it one step further Pinterest is the next logical step. Very visual and a great resource.

How to Use Pinterest Rich Pins: What Marketers Need to Know

Published June 3, 2013

“Do you use Pinterest for your business?

Have you heard about Pinterest Rich Pins and how they can help your marketing?

In today’s post, I’ll show you how businesses can get more from Pinterest Rich Pins.

Get to Know the New Pins

Pinterest is continuously expanding their functionality for businesses, from creating business accounts to marketing materials to help businesses get more from Pinterest.

The latest additions to Pinterest are the introduction of rich pins to include more information about pinned images and the integration of the Pin It button with mobile apps.

There are three types of pins that now allow you to share more information: products, recipes, and movies. The additional information for pins in these categories is provided by specific websites.

For example, major brands whose product pins have extended information include Anthropologie, Home Depot, Nordstrom, Overstock, REI, Sephora, Sony, Target and Walmart.”

Linking FAA Uploads & Posts to Social Meida

Hi Omaste, maybe you can weigh in on this.
When I first created my FAA account, I made the rookie mistake of linking my FB account to FAA and they flooded my FB timeline with all my uploads. I was immediately called on the carpet by friends and Photographers who follow my page. So I killed that and I broke the “automatic connection.
Now I only publish to my wall once every ten or more uploads (no more gnashing of teeth is heard) The one thing I don’t want to do is annoy potential customers by constantly bombarding their news updates with “Jeff uploaded another 10 images”.
I agree with them. as I saw a week later three “friends” on FB start up and the uploads were flying everywhere. Annoying as hell…

Now I just went to a gentlemans G+ link and all it was, was announcement after announcement of a new image on FAA… Nothing about the photographer… it sounded desperate to me and that I found a media channel outlet… BORING!
One thing I do know is that our customers want to get a feel for the photographer and create a connection. When all I see is “buy my print”,”buy my print”,”buy my print”,”buy my print” etc then I head for the hill or at least the next page. What is there to interest me to get me to look at the persons artwork?
Maybe I shouldn’t say anything so I don’t have to compete with these people but since we’re supposed to be helping each other out… I thought it would help to mention this. It does no good to fire and forget your announcements because the louder you yell, the less they listen…  Oh if I’m wrong let me know, I’m not perfect and my sales are not what I base this on. I base it on what I believe the very successful do to get found and sell.
